This is Rhinocity.net the personal blog of one Ryan Humes.

Who am I?

If you can answer that question, please let me know, because I certainly can’t.

Currently, I feel the following:

I’m a media nut, I love TV, movies and music.

I like indie movies and foreign movies best. Unless it’s Indiana Jones.

I like to read but don’t read anywhere near as many books as I used to.

New Slang by The Shins is really good.

I am a big Utah Jazz fan and a huge University of Utah Utes fan.

I am a gadget freak, not the big computer kind, the little gadget kind. Like phones and PDA’s.

I am a skeptic and a critic, I question everything until proven otherwise.

I love things with Genuine Emotion. Dashboard Confessionals are not genuine emotion.

Damien Rice is.

I’m not sure how life arising from green goo is any less miraculous than life arising from green goo after being stirred by the finger of God.

It cannot be proven that God does not exist because you cannot prove a negative.

Only God can prove the reverse (and he/she/it hasn’t.)

I’m not religious and I’m not anti-religious. I’m areligious.

I have a son who might be really good at math (he’s really good for his age.) I’m probably more excited about this than if he were an NBA draft pick.

I try really hard not to screw him up. I hope he forgives me when I fail.

My wife is just like me in all ways but the ones that are different.

She let me get an iPhone.

Politically I’m a pretty good mash-up, though increasingly I find myself leaning towards the liberal side of the political pole. I was born a Republican, or rather, I was raised ultra-right-wing; I’ve been to a Bo Gritz rally for cripes sake. My life as an adult has been a slow, constant drift leftwards. (According to Politicalquiz.net I’m a Hardcore Democrat… not sure about that, I’ll have to take more quizzes.)

I am forcefully pro stem-cell research.

Intelligent Design is anything BUT intelligent (see talkorigins.org.)

I don’t believe in anecdotes.

I applaud Oregon’s Right-to-Die laws and want some of my own. I do not want religious zealots deciding whether this is moral or not.

Speaking of religious zealots, I do not want my country run by them.

Vaccines are GOOD, don’t let biased internet sites tell you otherwise.

Did you know that the Pledge of Allegiance didn’t include the words “under God” until 1954 as a result of pressure from religious interests? I didn’t.

The United States is NOT a Christian Nation, it is a Free Nation.

I have no problems with gay marriage.

Onward Christian Soldiers scares me.

(BTW Politicalcompass.org puts me between the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela...)

Information should be free and freely available.

The United States is not an island. Which means I am a citizen of the world, not just my little corner of it.

A person is a person is a person is a person, even if all of our great-great-great to the nth grandfather was an ape.

All cells arise from other cells.

Fundamentalist anything scares me.

Any kind of fanatic is a bad fanatic.

People should not be allowed to think in black and white. NOTHING is black and white.

An athiest is not a communist.

Science may not always be right but it trumps belief any day.

All of the above is subject to change given new evidence.

This has gone on long enough.

Peace!
